Go With The Flow: Breathwork Facilitator

Originally from Somerset in England I now live in Wollongong, NSW.

I have 35 years experience working in the health and fitness industry, first as a teacher and now a practising exercise physiologist and qualified breathwork instructor.

My breathwork journey started after the end of a long term relationship sent me into a tail spin of emotional sensations and physical reactions. Grief, sadness and worry occupied my thoughts with very little relief. It also bought up unresolved life events, as well as doubts about myself – my perceived lack of strength and resilience, trust in myself and self- love that have arisen periodically through my life.

I attended a breath workshop, intrigued by its claims of healing traumas and restoring emotional and physical balance. It took me on a journey to find answers about why 45 minutes of breathing gave me a sense of peace and clarity for the first time in months. How did it change my conscious state? What were the physical symptoms I experienced; the energy pulsing through my body, the heat, the involuntary shaking then a powerful release of emotion?

My scientific brain needed answers and although some mysticism remains around my experience, I have found some of the answers.

Breathwork has it’s roots in ancient eastern wisdom, but there is emerging scientific evidence that the breath is a key to controlling your state of consciousness. My aim is to minimise the amount of cultural, philosophical, even religious overtones of breathwork and get right to the techniques. Whilst not denying there is a spiritual connection that can be achieved through breathwork which speaks to many.

Working with my breath has given me a powerful tool that can change my state of being in real time, helped me let go of past traumas and given me a chance to develop a stronger, healthier relationship with myself and others. My wish is that I can bring the benefits of breathwork to anyone and everyone.
